Check the file before you run it

Every release lists its SHA-256 checksum on this page. In PowerShell, run this in the folder where you saved the installer and compare the result with the value above:

Get-FileHash .\CrashWhy-Setup-<version>.exe -Algorithm SHA256

If the two values are different, do not run the file — download it again from this page.

"Windows protected your PC"

New programs from small publishers can show this Microsoft Defender SmartScreen message until enough people have downloaded the same file. If the checksum matches, choose More info → Run anyway. We will say here when the installer is code-signed.

Turning on Pro

Pro is sold through Lemon Squeezy, which handles the payment for us. After you buy, your Pro license key comes in the Lemon Squeezy purchase email. In CrashWhy, open Settings → License, paste the key and choose Activate Pro. The same box also takes a CrashWhy redeem code.

One key works on up to 3 PCs. To move it, choose Remove license from this PC on the old PC — uninstalling and choosing to delete your data does the same. Pro checks the key with Lemon Squeezy about once a week and keeps working offline for 30 days. Pro checkout is not open yet — see Pricing.

System requirements

  • Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit
  • Installs for the current user; administrator rights are only asked for when an action needs them
  • Optional: Microsoft's Debugging Tools for Windows, for driver names from dump files

Uninstall

Use Settings → Apps → Installed apps → CrashWhy → Uninstall. The uninstaller removes the program and its startup entry and asks before deleting your crash history.
