Short version: what CrashWhy reads about your PC stays on your PC.
Draft dated 2026-10-16. It describes how CrashWhy is designed to work at launch and will be reviewed before Pro checkout opens.
What the app reads, and where it stays
CrashWhy reads Windows event logs (such as Events 41, 6008, 1001 and 1074), crash dump files, Microsoft Defender status, startup entries and live system statistics (CPU, memory, disk, network and the process list). All of this is analysed locally. Its own screen is served only to your PC (127.0.0.1) and its history is stored in your user profile. It is not uploaded, synced or sold.
What goes over the internet
- Update check: the app asks this website for the latest version number. It sends nothing beyond a normal web request.
- Pro license check (Pro only): your license key and a random installation ID are sent to the payment provider to activate, validate or deactivate the license. We do not use your PC name or user name as the ID.
- Crash report (optional, off by default): if you turn it on, a report of a CrashWhy error contains the error type, the CrashWhy version and the Windows version — not process names, file paths or user names.
- Alerts you set up (Pro): if you connect Telegram, Discord or email, the alert text is sent to the service you chose, using credentials you enter. Those credentials are stored on your PC with Windows protection, not sent to us.
Purchases
When Pro checkout opens, payment will be handled by our reseller and Merchant of Record, Lemon Squeezy. They collect the name, email address, billing country and payment details needed for the order under their own privacy policy. We receive the order and license details needed to support you, and never your full card number.
